Safari Types And Experiences In Zimbabwe!
A prime safari destination with plenty of game viewing and wilderness experience options. There are several different types of safaris on offer, each with its unique advantages.
- The most popular type of safari type is by road. Travelling in a comfortable 4x4 vehicle, you can explore the country's diverse landscape and get close to the wildlife. An excellent option for those who want to see as much wildlife as possible, as you can quickly cover a lot of ground.
- For a more intimate experience, consider a walking safari. The National Parks in the country are home to some of Africa's best game viewing, and there's no better way to experience it than on foot. Walking excursions are also a great way to learn about the local flora and fauna.
- If you're looking for something extraordinary, consider a fly-in safari. Flying over Zimbabwe's dramatic landscapes and spotting herds of elephants, lions and zebras from above is an unforgettable experience. These packages are slightly more expensive as chartered aircraft are used.
- Another great option is a canoe safari. Gliding along the Zambezi Rivers waterways in a canoe is a peaceful way to view the wildlife, and you can often get much closer to the animals than you would on a vehicle safari.
Considerations When Planning A Safari!
Before one starts planning a safari, several aspects should be considered.
Firstly, how much time does one have and what month does this allotted time fall. This initial question helps determine what season and what one can expect in terms of pricing. Secondly, what sort of wildlife viewing would one be interested in? A purely photographic wildlife experience, throw in a bit of adventure (for example, white water rafting, helicopter flips, canoeing, walking excursions), or even add a bit of culture and history (the great Zimbabwean Ruins World Heritage Site). Lastly, what are you looking at spending in total, that all-important budget? As a quick note, if your budget is fixed and the rates are too high, we can always look at different seasons and levels of accommodation.
Zimbabwe's national parks and reserves can be expensive to visit, and these "park fees", payable in US$, are included in one's itinerary rate.
The best time to visit for a game drive and general wildlife sightings and experiences depends on which region or park you visit. Generally, the dry season (southern Africa winter) is the best time to visit for safaris, as the wildlife are more concentrated around watering holes and vegetation is less lush, making the wildlife easier to spot.
Victoria Falls (one of the wonders of the world) is best viewed at peak floods (March and April) when the Zambezi River covers the entire length of the falls. The Vics Falls are at their lowest around November and December. If viewing the falls is on one's bucket list, choosing the right time of year to visit is crucial.
The summer/ wet season is not that bad; good wildlife sightings and excellent birding are on offer. Only Mana Pools closes its door to visitors during the summer months as vehicles cannot gain access to the park.
Accommodation Options When On Safari!
There are various accommodation options when looking for the best safari in Zimbabwe. Many people choose to stay in traditional tented camps, which offer a rustic and authentic experience. These safari camps and safari lodges will have all the modern amenities that one would expect, just with tented rooms and suites.
Alternatively, you could stay at more luxurious Zimbabwe lodges with amenities including a private plunge pool, spa and wellness facilities, large and spacious yet private suites and verandahs, and service levels to match.
Don't hesitate any longer - let us together start designing that perfect bespoke itinerary that you have been dreaming of for years.
