Reserve Information
The Duba Plains Concession is a 33 000-hectare private reserve located in the northeast corner of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Its unique flooding cycles characterise the area, creating diverse habitats from permanent wetlands to seasonal floodplains and woodlands. The flooding cycles in the dry season (December to April) form perfect environments for zebra, wildebeest, kudus, and tsessebes to thrive. The area becomes a water wonderland with plenty of aquatic life during the wet season, which is from May to November.
The Duba Plains Concession provides an ideal habitat for various species due to its ample supply of grasses and plants that attract herbivores such as elephants, buffalo, and lechwe. Furthermore, these conditions attract predators such as lions, leopards, and wild dogs – making it an ideal destination with excellent game viewing.
In addition to animals, the Duba Plains Concession is also home to more than 420 species of birds – offering birdwatchers plenty of opportunities to observe rare species in their natural habitats.
Rooms And Suites
Duba Explorers Camp comprises five luxury canvas tents raised on decking and furnished with stylish, campaign-style writing desks, a private verandah, and luxurious en-suite facilities. Each tented suite is designed to provide maximum comfort while preserving its surroundings' natural beauty.
These magnificent tents offer king-sized beds as well as twin-bed configurations for double or single occupancy, depending on one's needs and wants.
Each suite features a full range of amenities, including air conditioning units, fans, light fixtures, power outlets, and a private en-suite bathroom with a hot indoor shower and flushing toilets.
Cuisine And Wine
The chefs at Duba Explorers Camp strive to offer guests a unique dining experience by taking advantage of local ingredients and fresh produce available from local towns and farms. All dishes are cooked from scratch using traditional cooking methods, giving visitors an authentic taste of African cuisine.
The team is committed to providing guests with the highest quality cuisine and wines. Executive Chefs and their team in the kitchen create delicious meals, including breakfast, lunch, high tea, and dinner, not forgetting snacks throughout the day.
The meals can be tailored to individual needs, including vegan, dietary restrictions, or even picnic breakfasts or lunch for game drives.
Regarding wine, Duba Explorers offers an extensive selection of South Africa's best wineries, including Constantia Glen, Simonsig Estate, Vergelegen Wine Estate and Spier Wine Farm, to mention a few. A wide selection of international wines is also available from France, Italy and Spain.
All dietary requirements are catered – prior notice is required.
Camp Facilities
Guests can relax in the open-concept dining and lounge area under a sweeping marquee canvas, taking in the panoramic views of the Delta floodplains. During the wet season (summer), take a dip in a unique swimming pool near the main guest area, the pool area with sun loungers and umbrellas.
Explorers Camp offers up an outdoor fire pit for guests to enjoy while appreciating Africa's spectacular night sky.
Those looking to purchase souvenirs can browse products at the Great Plains Safari Boutique, which sells locally and regionally-produced crafts that support community projects in the Okavango panhandle.
Safari Activities
Safari activities at Duba Explorers Camp provide an unforgettable experience of the Okavango Delta in Botswana.
Visitors can take guided game walks with licensed and armed guides. These walks are an excellent opportunity to get up close and personal with the local wildlife and bird watching.
Adventure seekers can also explore the permanent channels of the Delta by mekoro or boating (when water levels allow).
Other popular safari activities at Duba Explorers Camp include game drive safaris (both day and night options) in open-sided or canopied game drive vehicles that accommodate up to six people. Every safari 4x4 vehicle is stocked with drinks and snacks for guests' convenience.
All these activities offer stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere for guests to soak in the beauty of Africa's wonders.
Family Friendly
The perfect destination for families to enjoy a unique remote safari getaway. Children aged six and up are welcomed at Duba Explorers Camp, with unique triple-tented suites available upon request.
There is plenty to do for those aged eight and up at Duba Explorers Camp, including extensive walking safaris; canoeing (mekoro) can be enjoyed by those aged 12 and over.
