Classic Safari Camp In The Okavango, Jacana Offers Guests Exceptional Wildlife And Birdlife
Jacana Camp is a more water-oriented camp and offers boating trips, mekoro excursions and walking safaris all year round. Situated about 25 kilometres west of Mombo, outside the Moremi Game reserve on the Jao flats.
Game drives are on offer, but night drives are only possible from around September to May as water levels restrict this activity when the flood is in.
Jacana Camp is set in one of the most densely populated wetland areas for Sitatunga and Red Lechwe, not forgetting all the other big game and plains game sightings of the Jao Concession.
Wildlife concentrations depend on the water flow and volume and thus change from season to season. As a general rule, one can expect exceptional wildlife and birdlife sightings, especially between June and October.
Jacana Camp is located in the heart of the Okavango Delta, making it the perfect spot for those who want to experience the beauty and serenity as well as the exceptional wildlife of this unique area.
Rooms and Suites
Each of Jacana Camp's five tented suites offers guests a unique and comfortable experience, with all the amenities you would expect from a classic wilderness safari camp.
Each tented suite is built on a wooden deck overlooking the Jao floodplains and offers up a large bedroom, writing decks and sitting area, a private wooden viewing deck and en-suite bathroom facilities.
The bathroom is enclosed but roofless, allowing for showers by starlight, and a free-standing bathtub is located on the viewing deck (in a private location, of course).
Soaps, shampoos and insect repellents are supplied in each tent.
Cuisine and Wine
The cuisine and wine options at Jacana Camp are simply sublime and are in line with all other Wilderness safari camps out there in Southern Africa. In other words, one is in for a right royal mouth-watering treat.
Guests can enjoy the very best in fresh and local ingredients that are prepared with care and attention to detail by the amazing team in the kitchen. Meals are enjoyed either indoors in the dining area or outdoors on the viewing deck, weather dependent.
There is also a well-stocked wine cellar at Jacana Camp, so you can enjoy a glass of wine with your meal or take a bottle along to your tent for a romantic evening under the stars.
Camp Facilities
Jacana Tented Camp is home to a number of world-class facilities, perfect for those looking to relax and rejuvenate. The tented central guest area is surrounded by a dense forest of wild date palms and overlooks the papyrus swamps and water lilies of the Okavango.
The central guest area offers up a cosy bar and lounge area with a small library; outdoors, a large wooden viewing (and dining) deck with a fire pit is open to the African sky and stars.
A small swimming pool for cooling off from the midday sun after a morning safari activity.
Jacana Camp is unfenced, and wildlife does wander through from time to time; please keep your eyes peeled.
Safari Activities
Jacana Camp offers a range of safari experiences and activities for its guests to enjoy. These include both land and water-based activities; it must be noted that although game drives are on offer, Jacana Camp is seen as more of an Okavango waterway experience camp.
Land safari activities include both game drives and walking safaris.
Water activities include mekoro excursions, boating trips as well as fishing on a catch and release basis (basic rods, reels and tackle are supplied).
Private safari activities and options are available on request.
A photographic hide is located about 40 minutes from Jacana Camp and is the perfect spot for some fantastic birdlife photography.
In Conclusion
Jacana Camp is the perfect destination for those who want to experience all that the Okavango Delta has to offer while being in a classic safari camp.
From incredible wildlife and bird sightings to world-class cuisine and facilities, Jacana Camp has everything you need for an unforgettable safari getaway.
