Experience The Remote And Wild Kwetsani Island From This Intimate Safari Camp In The Okavango
Kwetsani Camp is situated in the private Jao Concession, which is world-renowned for its fantastic wildlife and birdlife sightings, in fact, some of the best game viewing in all of Africa.
The large elongated island on which Kwetsani is built is heavily wooded, cool and shady with Palm, Mangosteen and Fig trees and is one of the most remote camps in the entire Okavango Delta. Kwetsani Camp overlooks an enormous floodplain dotted with elephant, hippo, red lechwe, wildebeest and countless other species of plains game. All the Okavango's large predators are found here, including lions, leopards and hyenas.
With only five large and luxurious tented suites on offer, Kwetsani is a small and intimate safari camp that is all about the wilderness experience that surrounds. Access to Kwetsani Island is only by aircraft (depending on the Okavango's flood levels, either Jao or Hunda Island airstrip is used for access to this camp).
Rooms and Suites
The tree houses at Kwetsani Camp are extremely large and spacious and perfect for a relaxing getaway. Suites offer up king-sized beds (or twin beds should you require) with mosquito netting, a lounge area, and a writing desk, all under canvas. Outside, a private viewing deck with seating and loungers awaits with some of the best views in all of Botswana.
Each chalet in camp has en-suite facilities, including a shower, flush toilet, twin basins and an additional outdoor shower for those who like showering in the open air. All Kwetsani chalets are raised on stilts beneath a shady canopy, making them the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Cuisine and Wine
Kwetsani Camp offers an array of culinary delights, with something to tantalise everyone's taste buds. From mouth-watering African dishes to sumptuous international cuisine, guests will be spoiled for choice. All meals are prepared from only the freshest ingredients flown in daily.
Kwetsani also boasts a well-stocked wine cellar, with a superb selection of South African and international wines to choose from. Cuisine and wine options are excellent, as one would expect from any Wilderness Safaris camp.
Camp Facilities
The thatched and open-fronted central guest area is the place to be, raised up with commanding views out over the Jao Reserve and the Okavango waterways.
The central guest area at Kwetsani Camp features a dining room, lounge area with a small library, bar area, and a spacious outdoor wooden viewing deck with all the surrounding wildlife and birdlife on show. There is also a swimming pool with sun loungers at Kwetsani, located just off to the side of the main camp area. The camp is unfenced, and wildlife does and will wander through camp at any time of the day or night, keep your eyes peeled.
Safari Activities
Activities include mokoro, walking on palm-fringed islands and game drives during the day and night. When the water levels are high, the night drives are currently restricted to an hour's drive around Kwetsani Island.
At the height of the Okavango's annual floods, boats are used to get around the area and also to transfer to the islands where the game viewing vehicles are located. Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Wild Dog, Buffalo and Elephant are all found in this area, as well as good concentrations of Zebra, Wildebeest, Giraffe, and all the plains game.
Kwetsani Camp offers guests both water and land safari activities.
