An Intimate And Luxurious Safari Expedition Camp Located In The Private Mara North Conservancy
Mara Expedition Camp is an intimate tented safari camp designed for those seeking out that traditional and yet classic east African safari of years gone by.
A camp that offers exceptional service levels, all the while specialising in the very best wildlife and guiding experiences in the Mara region of Kenya.
Expedition Camp by Great Plains Conservation offers guests the best of both worlds when it comes to wildlife experiences, firstly, the intense action of the Maasai Mara and then, secondly, a more private affair with game drives in the 70 000-acre Mara North Conservancy.
The best of both worlds rolled into one fantastic safari destination.
Mara Expedition Camp is locally famous for its leopard residents wandering nearby and is positioned to take the best advantage of two migrations; the famed annual Serengeti migration and the green season migration from Loita Plains.
Rooms and Suites
Mara Expedition Camp is a small and intimate safari camp with only six tented safari suites that are all positioned far enough apart to ensure privacy at all times.
Large airy canvas tents with stunning views offer up a king-sized bed, writing desk and covered viewing deck. The decor is more in line with safari chic than anything else; all up, these tented suites are up there with the best in Kenya, we have no doubt.
En-suite bathroom facilities offer flushing toilets, hot and cold running water, double brass basins and indoor bucket showers.
WiFi is only available in the tented suites and not in the central guest area.
Cuisine and Wine
As with all Great Plains Conservation establishments, the cuisine at Mara Expedition Camp is up there with the best that Africa has to offer; the chef and their team in the kitchen will both surprise and delight one, day in and day out, either in the mess tent, outdoor under the Kenya stars or out in the wilds of the Masai Mara.
Meals are served in numerous locations, both indoors (the dining tent) and outdoors, depending on what the weather is doing. Private dining is an option either in a remote area or on the deck of one's suite, a perfect choice for romantics and honeymooners alike.
All dietary requirements are catered for from regular to vegan to children; advance notice is required.
Facilities
The central guest area at Mara Expedition Camp is found under a canopy of African ebony trees deep in the remote wilderness of the private 70 000-acre Mara North Conservancy.
A tented yet humble and rustic area awaits with open sides and wooden flooring. A lounge and dining area take centre stage, and the tented central guest area also offers a small library, bar and coffee station.
Outdoors one will find a fire pit area with seating, the perfect stop for after-dinner drinks while one listens to the sounds of the surrounding bushveld.
A limited laundry service is available on request.
Activities
Guided game drives and walking safaris are the best way to experience and photograph the magnificent wildlife and birdlife of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve and the Mara North Conservancy when staying at the beautiful Mara Expedition Camp.
An optional safari activity in the area and something that we regard as a must-do is 'hot-air ballooning over the Maasai Mara'. Hot-air balloon safaris must be pre-booked before one arrives at the camp.
Cultural activities include visits to a traditional Maasai boma, a school and various supported community projects. These activities are ideal for families and those looking for insight into the region's colourful Maasai people.
Child Friendly
Families with children six years and older in tow are most welcome, with accommodation options that are perfect for smaller families. A Young Explorers Kid's program will keep the little one's entertained and educated for hours on end.
An excellent range of child-friendly meals is available. Should a child be a fussy eater, please advise beforehand, and a plan will be made to cater for them.
Please note that Mara Expedition Camp is unfenced, and wildlife does wander through the camp; children will need to be supervised at all times.
In Conclusion
Mara Expedition Camp is the perfect safari destination for those who want to experience the best of both worlds.
With its prime location and amazing wildlife, this camp offers guests a unique and unforgettable safari experience.
With stunning views, top-notch cuisine, and plenty of activities to choose from, this camp is sure to please everyone in your group.
Whether you're a nature lover or just looking for an amazing African adventure, Mara Expedition Camp will not disappoint!

It was one of those rare moments where you take in the majesty of nature in complete silence, disturbing nothing, saying nothing. In Kenya last month, I had the great pleasure of a balloon safari over the Masai Mara organised by the excellent and highly professional Governors Company.Giraffe Manor Review
Located in the southern suburbs of Nairobi is an English manor house. When it was built, the country was unclaimed bush rampant with African wildlife. The home of Karen Blixen is nearby who posthumously lends her name to this suburb, Karen.Hells Gate Kenya
I had visions of being trampled by buffalo, stalked by lions, or, given the extreme humidity and daytime temperatures, falling prey to one of the thousands of vultures who call Hell's Gate National Park their home. But our guide assured me that it would be fun.
