Experience The Masai Mara At The Original Alex Walker's Safari Camp, The Serian On The Mara River
Serian Camp is the first and most famous of Alex Walker's camps in Kenya and East Africa.
A small and intimate classic safari camp located in a forested area on the banks of the famous Mara River, the perfect destination for those seeking out the best in wildlife and the best in photographic opportunities. A Masai Mara safari camp in which each tented suite gets its own exclusive vehicle and private spotter and guide included in the nightly rates.
The Alex Walker Serian is one of only eleven camps in the Mara North Conservancy; this ensures guests an almost completely private safari experience in one of Africa's most famed wildlife destinations.
For game viewing the Conservancy is home to an abundance of plains game, as well as the big cats and the Great Migration for which the Mara is so rightly famous. The open grasslands and riverine forest of the Mara North Conservancy create a perfect environment not only for game drives but also for walking and night drives, both of which are offered at Serian.
Should you be looking for your own personal piece of Africa when on a safari in the Masai Mara, look no further than Serian 'The Original'.
Rooms and Suites
Alex Walker's Serian Camp is a small and intimate safari camp with five spacious and luxurious tented suites.
All suites offer beautiful hardwood floors and decking, king-sized beddings draped in mosquito netting, indoor and outdoor sitting areas, and large en-suite bathrooms.
The en-suite bathrooms include a shower (hot and cold water) and an enormous bathtub, twin basins, and a flushing toilet.
- Four tented suites
- One family-tented suite
Cuisine and Wine
The Alex Walker Serian Camp offers up exceptional cuisine day and night. The team in the kitchen excel at their craft and uses only the freshest and best ingredients sourced locally or imported from Nairobi.
Numerous dining locals include indoor and outdoor areas as well as private dinners at one's tented suite.
Picnic breakfasts and lunches are available should one wish to partake in a full-day game drive (a must-do when staying here).
Serian Camp offers a wide array of wines (and beer options) to choose from to pair perfectly with your meal. With a variety of red and white wines, as well as sparkling wine, there is sure to be a wine that will complement your dish.
Facilities
The central guest area, the social hub of the camp, is where one will find a lounge with a fireplace, a small library, and an indoor dining room. The wooden viewing deck is the place to be when relaxing or dining under African skies.
One can sit back and enjoy the views over the surrounding bushveld teeming with wildlife, whether indoors or outdoors. Overall, the central guest area is a special place and fits in with the surrounding environment.
Please note; No Wi-Fi is available in camp at all. A stay here is about disconnecting from the outside world. However, we offer a selection of Masai Mara lodges that do have an internet connection, should this be important to you.
Activities
Game drives are the main means by which one gets to experience the surrounding wildlife and scenery. Morning, afternoon or full-day game drives are on offer; these options are entirely up to you and what you want on any given day.
On full-day game drives or even morning games, picnic breakfasts and lunches out in the wilds of the Mara North Conservancy are provided for.
It is important to note that for each tented suite, one gets their own exclusive safari vehicle and private spotter and guide (included in the rates). This is one of the many aspects that makes Serian Camp one of the most popular safari options in the Mara North Conservancy.
Other safari activities and game viewing opportunities available when staying at Serian Camp in the Masai Mara Nature Reserve include walking safaris, fly camping (by prior arrangement and costs), fishing (a dedicated Mara fishing safari is available, please enquire), and hot air ballooning (optional costs).
