Experience The Desert Wildlife Skeleton Coast And Hoanib River From This Remote Safari Camp
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is the newest camp in this remote region of Namibia.
Located in an area bordering the famed Palmwag concession and in the riverbed of the wildlife-rich Hoanib River.
The area surrounding the camp is famed for its incredible desert-adapted plant and animal life. Some of the incredible wildlife you can expect to see here include desert elephants, desert lions, black rhinos, leopards, and hyenas, as well as other desert-adapted plains game species.
For birders, rare desert species include Rüppell's korhaan, Benguela long-billed lark and Verreauxs' eagle.
Guests can speak with and ask questions of resident researchers.
At Uyaphi.com, we have visited this area a few times in the past, and we can say, hand on heart, what an absolute privilege it was. A highlight of any safari that will easily stand toe to toe with the likes of the Okavango Delta, Mana Pools and Zambezi River in terms of pure natural marvel.
Rooms And Suites
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp offers eight private tented suites, each with its own private viewing deck, luxuriously appointed bedrooms and en-suite bathroom facilities.
The tented suites are stylish, modern and well-insulated and include all the necessary indoor amenities, including a large and comfortable bed, a classic writing desk and chair, a sitting area with ottoman chairs, a luggage rack, and an electronic safe.
Outdoors, a shaded private viewing deck with an outdoor lounge area with a mini-bar and views that go on forever.
The en-suite bathrooms offer up flushing toilets, hot and cold water, hand basins and a large shower.
There is only one family unit consisting of two adjoining bedrooms, each with private en-suite bathroom facilities and a shared viewing deck.
There is no air conditioning, but each tent includes a pedestal fan to keep the rooms cool during the summer months. In suite WiFi is available at no extra cost.
Cuisine And Wine
The cuisine and wine at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is of a high standard as one would expect from a Wilderness Safaris camp of this nature.
All meals are included in the nightly rate and include breakfast, lunch, high tea and a three-course dinner.

There is an indoor luxurious lounge area with a small reference library, a dining area and a small but well-stocked bar area; all overlook the surrounding desert and mountain landscape.
There is also an outdoor dining area and firepit for those meals and after-dinner drinks under the stars of the Namib Desert
A small swimming pool with a shaded area and sun loungers is found adjoining the central guest area.

Cape Town To The Kunene River
In November and December of last year (2019), we loaded our Jeep and headed north out of Cape Town, destination Namibia and the Kunene River, her border with Angola.
A couple of thousand kilometres later, we returned, this time, more in love with country than ever.

Instead of lush green forests or open savannas, the primary attraction being vast, open deserts interspersed with canyons, mountain ranges, and oasis.
Living With The Himba
In May 2012, we arranged for Uyaphi.Com client Ken Vine from Devon in England to stay with the traditional Himba people in two remote villages in the middle of Kaokoland.
He lived, slept, ate, conversed and photographed these Himba villagers.
