The Ongava Tented Camp is a luxurious tented camp located in the privately owned Ongava bordering the famed Etosha National Park in northern Namibia.
The 30 000-hectare, privately owned Ongava Game Reserve is home to a variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, and rhinos, as well as numerous species of plains game.
Tented Camp features eight large tents with en-suite facilities, open-air showers, and private wooden viewing decks overlooking a waterhole and the surrounding Etosha National Park bushveld.
The main area of the camp features a stone building with a thatched roof and overlooks a waterhole frequented by many different animals.
Watching wildlife come to drink from this waterhole is a favourite pastime for guests at Ongava Tented Camp.
The Ongava Reserve offers guests a variety of safari activities, including game drives (in the reserve and national park), bush walks, and visits to the Ongava Research Centre.
Rooms And Suites
Each of the eight tented safari suites (classic meru style tents) at Ongava Tented Camp is luxurious and spacious, with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the incredible views.
Guests can enjoy the convenience of a writing desk and chair, easy chair, luggage rack, tea and coffee-making facilities, and electronic safes.
Guests can also enjoy private verandas overlooking the waterhole, where they can watch as animals come to drink.
The suites are open plan with en-suite facilities that include flush toilets, vanity basins, indoor and outdoor showers, and mosquito nets.
The camp's family unit is especially spacious, with two bedrooms, both with private en-suite bathrooms. This is a great option for families or groups who want to share one room but still maintain some privacy.
Cuisine And Wine
The cuisine and wine options when staying at Ongava Tented Camp are exquisite.
The camp offers a variety of African-inspired dishes, all of which are made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
There is also an extensive wine list featuring some of the best wines from South Africa and beyond.
The bar and dining area of Tented Camp is built out of rock and thatch and has an intimate feel. Drinks and dinner can be enjoyed around the open-air fireplace and swimming pool, both of which overlook a productive floodlit waterhole situated at eye level in front of the camp.

The main dining room and lounge area at Ongava Tented Camp is a beautiful thatch and stone structure, with a bar and swimming pool nearby.
This area provides stunning views of the waterhole, which is teeming with wildlife and birdlife. There is also a curio shop on site, as well as a WiFi service in the lapa.
Guests can relax around the campfire or enjoy a swim in the pool while taking in the incredible views.
Safari Activities
At Ongava, guests can enjoy a variety of safari activities. These include game drive options in the Etosha National Park and on the Ongava Reserve itself, guided walks, birding, and spending time at photographic hides
Ongava offers morning, afternoon and night game drives on Ongava Game Reserve in custom 4x4 safari vehicles that accommodate a maximum of 7 guests, giving each guest an outside seat. This allows for an up-close and personal game viewing experience.
Half-day excursions into Etosha National Park and full-day excursions with a picnic (on request) are also available.
Guided nature walks in the Game Reserve are a great way to get up close and personal with the wildlife, and white rhino walking excursions are also offered.
Private activities such as stargazing or a wildlife hide for viewing and photography can be arranged on request.

The Road To Sossusvlei
Once one navigates the main Sesriem entrance gates and enters the national park a pleasant surprise awaits, a tarred road (yes, a tarred road) that extends all the way through to the main parking area near Sossusvlei.

In November and December of last year (2019), we loaded our Jeep and headed north out of Cape Town, destination Namibia and the Kunene River, her border with Angola.
