Whale Watching
This whale watching page is not about driving a car or joining a tour to Hermanus to watch whales breach, this page is about the whale sighting right here in Cape Town that we have witnessed and photographed over the past few years.
It is a little-known fact that in False Bay one has the chance of spotting Southern Right Whales, Brydes Whales, Humpback Whales, Killer Whales (Orcas) and Dolphins. Although truth be told spotting a Southern Right Whales is relatively easy, Killer Whales on the other hand not so easy.
Whale spotting season is in general between July and November when the females come into False Bay (and Hout Bay) to calf.
To spot these beasties one needs to drive on Boyes Drive from Muizenberg to Kalk Bay stopping every now and again to scan the ocean below for floating black masses that could be a whale. Kalk Bay to Simon's Town is also a good option for whales.
Chapman's Peak Drive near Hout Bay is another good spot on top of being one of the most scenic drives in the World.
