Kruger Mammal List
A Checklist Of All Mammals Found In The Kruger National Park
The Kruger National Park is without question one of Africa's premier game-watching destinations. For a good reason, 147 mammal species occur within the National Park and surrounding private Game Reserves.
Are you interested in spotting the famed "Big 5"? Well, that might be easier than you expect with estimated numbers as follows; Rhinoceros +-7000 (both white and black), Buffalo +- 27000, Leopard +- 2000, Lion +- 2800 and Elephants +- 12000.
Rare and endangered African Wild Dog (+- 150) and Cheetah (+- 120) can also be found, although their numbers are on the low side.
The above numbers may need to be revised for 2022/2023.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced game-watcher, the Kruger National Park is an ideal destination for you. You will most certainly be able to see a fantastic array of wildlife from the comfort of your hire car or 4x4 safari vehicle when out on a game drive (or night drive)
With the proper preparation, planning and a little luck, you'll be able to check off each of these 147 mammal species in no time!
