Facilities
The dining area, with its thatched roof, sits atop the rocky kopje, offering breathtaking views of the park and beyond. On a hot day, a gentle breeze from Lake Kacheera keeps it refreshingly cool. From this vantage point, overlooking a waterhole and saltlick, one can relish in delicious food while observing the wildlife in action.
The bar area is designed with a cement sofa that curves around existing granite rocks, creating cosy niches adorned with paraffin lights. It exudes a sense of charm and sparkle. Most importantly, the bar is well stocked, ensuring that they can serve your favourite drink alongside a bowl of homemade nibbles. The amazing wine list proudly features a selection of South African and a few Australian options.
The recently constructed tower area offers breathtaking panoramic views of the park from every angle, making it the perfect location to witness the mesmerizing beauty of both sunrise and sunset. Additionally, it provides ample seating on comfortable sofas, ideal for indulging in a post-lunch siesta.
Whether lounging by the pool with views of the waterhole or enjoying the cool breezes from the top of the tower, there are ample opportunities to unwind and relax.
Activities
Lake Mburo National Park and its surrounding areas offer a plethora of breathtaking game drives and routes waiting to be explored. One of the more classic game drive routes is the Research Track, where you can witness buffalo wallowing in the mud, as well as zebra, impala, topi, bushbuck, reed buck, oribi, and warthog.
Lake Mburo offers a unique opportunity for night game drives, allowing you to encounter a variety of nocturnal animals that you wouldn't see during the day. From bush pigs and genet cats to white-tailed mongooses, the night drives reveal a whole new world. Moreover, these drives provide the best chance of spotting leopards and spotted hyenas.
An armed UWA guide must accompany all walking safaris within the park. While you technically have the freedom to walk anywhere in the park with a guide, the most popular walks start from the lodge or along the swamps bordering Lake Mburo. A two-hour loop from the lodge will take you through the valleys and ridges, offering breathtaking views that you can already admire from the dining room before returning you to the lodge.
For an extraordinary wildlife experience, consider horseback safaris at Mihingo Lodge. The absence of engine noise allows you to fully immerse yourself in nature, hear the sounds, and encounter more timid animals. With a bit of luck, you might even spot Eland and Buffalo!
If you prefer a car-free exploration and aren't comfortable on horseback, you can opt to rent one of the new, top-of-the-range mountain bikes. Partnering with 'Africa Outdoor,' Mihingo Lodge offers great quality bikes for your bush adventure in the Mburo wilds.
Child Friendly
To encourage children to engage more with the environment and cultivate a genuine enthusiasm for the bush and its animals, Mihingo Lodge offers a delightful bush experience tailored for kids. Whether it's a short one-hour excursion or a memorable bush meal, the staff will ensure that they have the opportunity to interact and learn about the wonders of the bush and its fascinating wildlife.
Additionally, half and full-day experiences are available for a more comprehensive exploration of the surroundings should the kids ask for more options.
Spa And Wellness
Experience the ultimate relaxation with a rejuvenating full-body massage, each lasting approximately 1 hour. Set in an enchanting forest, the dedicated massage rondavel provides the perfect backdrop, with the soothing melodies of birdsong and the graceful dance of butterflies.
Not only will you find tranquillity and relaxation, but you'll also be supporting a meaningful cause. The proceeds from all massages contribute to the Mihingo Conservation & Community Development Foundation (MCCDF), allowing you to feel good in every way.
