Activities
Murchison Falls is a popular destination for safari enthusiasts. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including lions, leopards, elephants, Rothschild's giraffes, Cape buffalos, and hartebeests. For the best game-viewing experience, head to the Buligi area, especially during the early morning and late afternoon game drives.
One of the highlights of visiting Murchison Falls is taking a launch trip upstream to witness the majestic falls and observe the wildlife as they come to drink and bathe. The round trips usually last three hours. Alternatively, you can choose to disembark at Fajao Gorge and hike to the top of the falls, where your driver can pick you up.
Another option is to take a boat trip downstream to the papyrus delta, where the River Nile meets Lake Albert. This 4-5 hour return voyage offers a great opportunity to spot the shoebill stork and other wildlife. If preferred, you can arrange to disembark at a prearranged spot and continue with a game drive.
Anglers will also find excitement below Murchison Falls, with the chance to catch a massive Nile Perch (the current record stands at 108kg). Fishing is limited to designated sites, and availability is limited, so it is advisable to book in advance.
