Murchison Falls National Park boasts an impressive wildlife biodiversity, harbouring a remarkable array of species. With 76 types of mammals and 451 different birds, the park is a haven for nature enthusiasts. As the River Nile flows from Murchison Falls, it attracts a diverse range of wildlife, including crocodiles, hippos, and water birds. Lions, warthogs, buffalo, rare aquatic sitatunga antelope, giant forest hogs, Uganda kobs, topis, waterbucks, elephants, and leopards also call this park their home.
For an unforgettable wildlife experience, the best times for game drives are the early mornings and late afternoon/early evenings. Embark on a scenic drive through the picturesque Buligi area west of Paraa to Delta Point, where the Victoria Nile merges with Lake Albert to form the Albert Nile. This three-hour journey promises sightings of elephants, buffalos, giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeests, and oribis. If luck is on your side, you might even spot a majestic lion or a stealthy leopard.
When visiting Murchison Falls, there are various ways to explore and witness the main attraction of the national park. Take a river excursion on the Nile to Murchison Falls, hike to the top of the falls, or opt for a scenic drive. The untamed wilderness of Murchison Falls Conservation Area can be explored not only by vehicle but also on foot. Follow a trail from the lodge that winds down to the river, passing through gullies and low hills.
For avid anglers, the Murchison Nile offers world-class fishing opportunities, with the renowned Nile Perch and an abundance of catfish. In fact, a record-breaking 108 kg Nile Perch was caught near the foot of the falls in 2002. Fishing permits can be obtained from the UWA park office in South Paraa, and limited fishing gear and binoculars are available for rent at the lodge.

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of a very special family, the Mubare family group in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the south western corner of Uganda.
They are, of course, gorillas. Why are they so special?
