Discover Takwela Camp: Your Gateway To Untouched Wilderness In North Luangwa!
Takwela Camp, the most recent addition to Remote Africa Safaris portfolio, was unveiled in July 2019 in the North Luangwa region. This remote and meticulously maintained park receives substantial backing from the Frankfurt Zoological Society and boasts a dedicated team from Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife as well as the North Luangwa Conservation Project.
Positioned on Remote Africa's private land at the junction of the Luangwa and Mwaleshi Rivers, Takwela Camp offers breathtaking vistas of a resident hippo pod against a backdrop of untouched bushland. Accessible via a picturesque 30-minute flight from the Mwanya (Lukuzi) airstrip in South Luangwa, the journey showcases the dramatic riverine landscape en route to Mwaleshi airstrip. A subsequent 45-minute game drive and short canoe crossing lead guests into camp. For avid walkers, a stunning 10km morning walk along the Mwaleshi River from Mwaleshi Camp presents a rewarding camp-to-camp activity option. Extended stays of three nights or more are encouraged at each camp.
Takwela promises an unparalleled wilderness encounter and an opportunity to explore a pristine and undiscovered section of the North Luangwa. Although the floodplain may not rival that of the mid-Luangwa, it remains prime wildlife territory, offering exceptional wildlife sightings as animals acclimate to the new camp.
Rooms And Suites
Takwela Camp can accommodate a maximum of eight guests in four cosy en-suite chalets. Three of these chalets feature two double beds each, while the fourth chalet boasts a luxurious king-sized bed for a truly comfortable stay. Embodying the essence of Remote Africa, the camp is powered by solar energy and meticulously crafted from locally sourced natural materials, showcasing the craftsmanship of local artisans.
Each of the four en-suite chalets offers breathtaking panoramic views, with open fronts that allow guests to immerse themselves in the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
The open-air en-suite bathrooms are a highlight. They are equipped with modern amenities, including a flushing toilet, an invigorating shower, and elegant hand basins for a touch of luxury in the heart of nature.
Cuisine And Wine
The cuisine at Takwela Camp offers an exquisite fusion of local flavours and international sophistication, promising a gastronomic adventure that delights and surprises at every meal.
Each dish is a celebration of the region's abundant fresh produce, masterfully crafted by expert chefs who draw inspiration from traditional recipes and modern culinary techniques. Guests can expect to be treated to vibrant, beautifully plated creations that not only capture the essence of the local culture but also push the boundaries of conventional safari dining.
Whether it's a hearty breakfast to kickstart a day of adventure, a light and refreshing lunch, or a sumptuous dinner paired with the finest wines, Takwela Camp promises an unforgettable dining experience that complements its breathtaking setting.

The small, thatched central guest area seamlessly blends with the lush bushveld surroundings of the North Luangwa.
Takwela Camp guests can unwind in the cosy lounge, complete with a collection of reference books, conveniently situated beside the main dining area. Enjoy a refreshing drink at the bar area nestled between the lounge and dining space.
Facilities include a solar communal charging area (220V) for your convenience and solar-powered fans for a comfortable stay. Please note that no Wi-Fi is available.
Activities
Guests at Takwela Camp often find themselves sharing the vast expanse with only just a handful of other visitors, creating an intimate and exclusive experience. The North Luangwa National Park is home to a highly successful black rhino sanctuary and boasts thriving populations of iconic African wildlife species.
Safari activities available at the park include thrilling game drives, immersive walking safaris, picturesque sundowner stops for drinks, visits to the impressive natural springs near the camp, birdwatching opportunities with 416 species of birds, and is a hotspot for encounters with lions, leopards, hippos, elephants, kudus, waterbucks, Cookson’s wildebeests, and wild dog.
