Rooms and Suites
With a total of 16 guests accommodated at any one time in four "luxury suites" and two "exclusive family suites", Tuningi Safari Lodge is one of the more intimate and private options on offer.
The "luxury suites" are beautifully appointed with large amounts of space and privacy. King-sized beds, fireplace, sitting area and those stunning en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers and large bathtubs.
The "exclusive family suites" offer two en-suite bedrooms that are separated by a living room, dining area and kitchenette. These family suites are designed with the needs of a small family in mind.
The two-family suites can also be set up to host a small group of friends or a larger family group in a four-bedroomed configuration.
Cuisine and Wine
After one's morning game drive, one is treated to a hearty brunch, with hot or cold options are on offer. All this is served up in either the indoor or outdoor dining area, depending on what the weather is, of course.
Lunches are also enjoyed in the same locations as brunch.
Boma dinners are genuinely spectacular, with light coming from lanterns and candles, heat from that sizeable open fire, and all this under the Madikwe stars.
Delightful cuisine and a superb wine list make for an unforgettable evening.
On the odd night when the weather is not playing its part, dinner is hosted in the indoor elegant dining room.
Establishment Facilities
The Tuningi central thatched guest area in a "Colonial African Chic" theme offers visitors indoor and outdoor lounges, a small library, an elegant dining room, a separate kids area and a sweeping wooden overlooking a waterhole brimming with birdlife and wildlife.
A rim-flow swimming pool with wooden decks also looks over the waterhole, and it is here where one escapes the heat of the Madikwe.
- Lounge, dining room and bar area
- Boma area for dinners under African stars
- Viewing deck next to the waterhole
- Superb South African wine list
- Rim-flow swimming pool overlooking the waterhole
- Wi-Fi in the central guest area

Wildlife Activities
Two daily game drives (early morning and late afternoon) led by highly skilled trackers and knowledgeable guides transverse the 750 square kilometres of the Madikwe Game Reserve.
Game drives at Tuningi Safari Lodge are not always about the bigger wildlife but also the history of the area, culture and, of course, those little critters that are all too often passed by (trees, insects and birdlife).
- Big 5 game viewing (Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Leopard, Buffalo)
- Two game drives daily (morning & afternoon)
- Photographic excursions
- Optional walking adventures (on request)
- Massages available in your room
One of our highlights was the sundowner drinks on an afternoon game drive, the sun setting, beer or G&T in hand and great conversation with the guide.
Family Friendly
Children are welcome at Tuningi Safari Lodge. There is a kids' programme with numerous activities available; a child-friendly menu is on offer for all meals.
Regrettably, due to safety concerns, children under five years of age are unable to participate in game drives (shorter kiddies game drives can be arranged after breakfast).

Impodimo Review
If you're looking for an unpretentious good quality accommodation establishment, look no further than Impodimo in The Madikwe. Coming in at the perfect price, offering all the creature comforts as well as wildlife activities could easily be associated with a property 3x the price.
One will certainly not be disappointed.
Jamala Review
A review of one of our favourite lodges not only in the Madikwe Game Reserve but the whole of South Africa.
Why and how (well you will have to read for more thoughts and opinions), but in a nutshell - magnificent wildlife, great food, great rooms and most importantly fantastic service.
Mateya Review
One of those lodges that just blew us away. We knew that we were going somewhere special but just did not realise how extraordinary the experience would be.
Reflecting that old-world wildlife and birdlife experience - it is indeed more old school than new school regarding decor and feels.
