The best time to visit the game reserve for game-viewing sightings is between May and October during the dry winter months. The wetter summer months are best for birding opportunities between December and March. We have visited the game reserve in both summer and winter and can say that we experienced excellent wildlife during both seasons.

The Madikwe Game Reserve is a malaria-free zone and is, therefore, a popular destination for families and those seeking a destination devoid of the disease.
